Il 20 marzo 2021 la Turchia di Erdogan si è ritirata dalla Convenzione di Istanbul,  sancendo così l’esistenza di un’onda nera che vuole travolgere e annullare la dignità e la libertà femminile.

Infatti molti Stati non hanno siglato la Convenzione e la Polonia, pur avendola ratificata, minaccia ora di ritirarsi.  

Con questo strappo la Turchia non fa che ribadire la propria volontà di oppressione e violenza già palesata con l’incarcerazione di soggetti dell’opposizione, alcunǝ mortǝ per aver scelto di attuare lo sciopero della fame. Opprimere le donne, azzittirle, umiliarle significa colpire le custodi della cura, dell’educazione e della quotidianità dell’umano e costituisce lo snodo per consolidare una società diseguale in cui fascismo, razzismo e omotransfobia chiudono la strada alla civiltà che vuole restare umana e comunicare oltre i confini. 

La violazione del corpo delle donne è dunque un atto simbolico volto ad annientare dignità, libertà di espressione e libertà per tutti e tutte.  La ratifica della Convenzione aveva aperto al rafforzamento del cambiamento politico, giuridico, culturale sui diritti contro le disparità e per il contrasto alla violenza di genere. Tale cambiamento interpella sia donne che uomini e muove dalla convinzione che relazioni di genere eque e civili costituiscono il fondamento per realizzare un modello di convivenza democratica e inclusiva, basata sul rispetto dei diritti umani, delle regole dello Stato di diritto e sulla lotta alla discriminazione di genere oltre ogni confine. 

Sul piano geopolitico, inoltre, il ritiro dalla Convenzione denota la volontà di Erdogan di riposizionare la Turchia nelle relazioni internazionali, così con l’Unione Europea utilizza il ricatto minacciando di non frenare più i flussi migratori; su questo l’Europa che chiude le frontiere è connivente e paradossalmente lo aiuta a smantellare diritti. 

Preoccupa dunque come anche all’interno dell’Unione Europea si stia creando un fronte allineato alle posizioni turche, che mina a livello internazionale la cultura dei valori democratici, del rispetto dei diritti umani e con essi anche i progetti di sostegno alle donne nella ripresa post Covid-19.

Noi della Casa delle donne abbiamo scelto di denunciare tutto questo attraverso le parole delle poetesse turche e curde, per testimoniare il grande valore della loro umanità e cultura e infondere la speranza che sia impossibile la regressione politica e culturale che si affaccia nel mondo. La capacità di lotta delle donne, tutte, che nei diversi continenti sono scese nelle piazze manifestando la propria opposizione e sostenendo con la forza delle idee la necessità di “rimettere al mondo il mondo”, ci fa sperare e stare al loro fianco. Alcune oppositrici politiche, ambientaliste, che si opponevano allo sfregio sull’ambiente sono state uccise per questo ed è anche per loro che noi siamo qui presenti contro il rischio di cancellare e rinnegare le deroghe ai diritti fondamentali.

POETRY BECOMES POLITICAL – 6 Turkish and Kurdish poetry pills

On March 20th 2021, Turkey withdrew from the Istanbul Convention, thus sanctioning the existence of a right-wing project to overwhelm and cancel the dignity and freedom of women.

Several countries have not signed the Convention and Poland, despite having ratified it, is now threatening to withdraw.

By this choice, Turkey is reaffirming its will for oppression and violence already manifested with the incarceration of opponents, some of them died due to hunger strikes. Oppressing women, silencing them, humiliating them means to harm the keepers of human care, of education and everyday life and constitutes a hub to consolidate an unequal society in which fascism, racism and homotransphobia inhibit the civil society that wants to remain human and communicate beyond the borders.

The violation of the women body is therefore a symbolic act aimed at annihilating dignity, freedom of expression and everyone freedom. The Convention ratification opened to the fortification of political, juridical, cultural change on rights against inequalities and for the fight against gender-based violence. This change concerns both women and men and is based on the certainty that fair and respectful gender relations are the foundation to create a democratic coexistence, based on respect for human rights, for the rules of democratic laws and on the fight against gender discrimination beyond all boundaries.

Furthermore, on a geopolitical level, the withdrawal from the Convention denotes Erdogan’s will to reposition Turkey in international relationships, blackmailing the European Union and threatening not to slow down migratory flows and Europe that closes its borders is conniving and paradoxically helps him to dismantle rights.

It is therefore worrying that even within the European Union, a front aligned with Turkish positions is being created, which undermines worldwide the culture of democratic values, respect for human rights and also initiatives to support women in post-COVID-19 recovery.

Casa delle Donne of Parma has chosen to denounce all this through the words of the Turkish and Kurdish poetesses, to testify the great value of their humanity and culture and to instil the hope that such political and cultural regression faces the world will not happen. The fighting capacity of women, all of them, who in the various continents have taken to the streets, manifesting their opposition and supporting with the strength of their ideas the need to “give the world back to the world”, makes us hope and stand by them. Some female political opponents, environmentalists, who opposed the disfigurement of the environment were killed. For this reason, we are here to fight with them against the risk of cancelling and denying fundamental rights.
